North Miami Beach’s mayor and council voted unanimously to overhaul the planning and zoning codes, which had not been updated since the mid-1950’s. Proponents for the changes contend tht the zoning and land use law were outdated and have slowed economic growth as a result. Nearby cities without such zoning and planning laws have grown considerably attracting a number of multi million dollar developments.
Some of the changes include permitting high density and higher building heights and mixed use developments in addition to pedestrian walkways and bike paths. Macken Real Estate’s Alan Macken was a large supporter of these amendments and was quoted in the Miami Herald saying, ““I’m proud in some small way to have acted as a catalyst for getting this off the ground. I’ve been in the city a long time and I know this has not been simple.” Plans are still being considered and amendments carefully looked over before final approval and the Macken Team is active in this development.
The final approval could be a month away, however the city is taking a cautionary approach and is seeking to emulate Sunny Isles and Aventura. Sunny Isles and Aventura are increasingly becoming hot spots for multi million dollar developments such as Porsche Design Tower, Prive, and Mansions at Acqualina to name just a few.
